Betel and Betel nut
According to Sri Lankan Culture, Betel has a greater value other than a chewing item. It is used
in many auspicious activities to indicate blessings. There are a few types of Betel leaves in Sri
Lanka. Betel is an evergreen, perennial climber extensively grown throughout Sri Lanka. The
economic product is the leaf, mainly used for chewing with arecanut, slaked lime, tobacco and
a few other elements. Primarily based on shape, length, brittleness and taste of leaf blade,
betel vine is classified into smelly and non-smelly varieties.
